Former Philly Cop Sentenced For DUI Crash That Hurt 2

Former Philadelphia Police officer Gregory Campbell crashed into a home in 2021 while DUI, injuring two people and killing their two dogs.

PHILADELPHIA — A former Philadelphia Police officer convicted of aggravated assault while DUI and related charges was sentenced to prison recently.

Gregory Campbell, 28, was sentenced to at least 11 months in prison after he pleaded guilty to aggravated assault while DUI, felony criminal mischief, possession of an instrument of crime, simple assault, DUI, and two counts of reckless endangerment of another person back in April.

Campbell — who was a 2-year veteran of the department and was most recently assigned to the 14th District — was taken into custody on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2021 on suspicion of driving under the influence after crashing his vehicle into a home on the 2800 block of Comly Road.

This crash severely injured one person, caused injury to a second person, and killed two dogs, according to authorities.

Hurt in the crash were husband and wife, ages 45 and 53 respectively. The crash also killed one of their dogs and hurt another.

The crash also caused extensive property damage to the home itself.

Prior to the crash, Campbell had been at a few bars, including the Fraternal Order of Police lounge.

Campbell was driving at least 70 miles per hour when the crash occurred.

He was suspended then fired from the police force in February 2021.

Campbell was a 2-year veteran of the department and was most recently assigned to the 14th District.
