Former Temple President Richard Englert Named Interim Leader
After acting Temple University President JoAnne Epps' death, former president and current Chancellor Richard Englert will fill her spot.

PHILADELPHIA — A longtime member of the Temple University community will lead the school as it works to find a permanent replacement for late acting university President JoAnne A. Epps.
Chair of Temple's Board of Trustees Mitchell Morgan Tuesday announced Chancellor Richard M. Englert was appointed by vote to the role of president.
"Dr. Englert will carry on the work that President JoAnne A. Epps started and provide a steady hand of leadership while the search for Temple’s next chief executive continues," Morgan said in his announcement.

He was the school's 11th president, holding that position from 2016 to 2021.
"Dr. Englert’s career at Temple has spanned nearly half a century, highlighted by Temple’s development as a national leader in higher education, while remaining faithful to its mission of access and its unique role as Philadelphia’s public university," Morgan said.
The Temple community is "immensely grateful to Dr. Englert for answering the call" during the community's time of mourning, according to Morgan.
"We anticipate completing the ongoing search and announcing the next president of Temple University in spring 2024," Morgan said.
