German Grocer Lidl Opening First Philadelphia location Dec 11

A grand opening event on Dec. 11 will kick off a weekend of get-them-while-you-can special offers, giveaways, and prizes for shoppers.

PHILADELPHIA — A German grocery store chain is getting a new location right in Philadelphia, offering shoppers another option when trying to find their grocery needs.

Lidl will open its newest store at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, at 2290 E. Butler Street in Philadelphia.

This location is Pennsylvania's newest, adding to the five existing store in PA, and Philadelphia's first.

The ribbon cutting event will begin at 7:40 a.m. and will kick off a weekend of get-them-while-you-can special offers, giveaways, and prizes for shoppers.

The store will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Sunday.

"We want to be the number one grocery destination for customers in Philadelphia and will work hard to offer a great shopping experience," said Philadelphia Store Manager John Grimes. "The local team and I are excited to give this community big quality and Lidl prices."

Customers will be able to take advantage of get-them-while-you-can grand opening special offers at the new Philadelphia store.

It will include the following:

  • The first 100 customers will be presented with a special gift card ranging from $5 to $100 each.
  • Shoppers can get free samples of an array of Lidl’s products and a complimentary Lidl reusable bag while supplies last.
  • Games, activities, prizes, special deals and giveaways throughout grand opening weekend
