📰 News we're reading
1. Longtime Manayunk Jewelry Store Closing After Owner's Death (patch.com) — Longtime customers in Manayunk are saying goodbye to Gary Mann Jewelers after the sudden death of its founder, who spent nearly four decades crafting custom pieces on Main Street. The Philadelphia shop, known for marking life's milestones with one-of-a-kind jewelry, is holding a going-out-of-business sale until all merchandise is sold. Neighbors can still visit the Main Street location to browse remaining items and honor the store's legacy.

2. 2 'Tenderage' Children Go Missing Out Of Philadelphia: Police (patch.com) — Philadelphia police are asking residents to help locate two missing young siblings, Benjamin and Franklin Gibson, last seen Tuesday near 7200 Ogontz Avenue. Authorities believe they may still be in nearby city neighborhoods around Limekiln Pike or 74th Avenue and urge anyone with information to immediately contact 911 or the Northwest Detective Division. Community awareness in these Philadelphia areas is critical right now.

3. Red September Magic Teased, Taken Away In Phillies Wild Card Loss (patch.com) — Phillies fans saw a brief spark of Red October magic when J.T. Realmuto's late triple gave Philadelphia a lead, only for Atlanta to snatch it back with a three-run homer off usually dominant closer Jhoan Duran. Despite the gut-punch loss, the Phillies still have Cristopher Sanchez, Zack Wheeler, and Aaron Nola lined up, keeping Philadelphia's wild card hopes alive heading into the next two games.

4. SEPTA awards Shawmont lease (chestnuthilllocal.com) — A long-vacant historic rail station in Northwest Philadelphia is set for new life as the city moves to lease Shawmont Station from SEPTA and sublease it to a local preservation nonprofit. If City Council approves, the 1820s building near the Schuylkill River Trail will be restored as a museum and community learning center, with the city covering renovation costs while SEPTA saves on maintenance.

5. Teens transform vacant Kensington lot from illegal dump site into community garden (audacy.com) — Kensington teens have turned a long-neglected illegal dumping lot at Shelbourne and Willard streets into a small urban forest with pollinator gardens, benches, and art. Working through the summer heat with Klean Kensington and local partners, they've created a new community gathering spot that tackles blight, offers shade and seating for neighbors, and shows what young people can accomplish in Philadelphia.
