'Handmaids' Protest Vice President Pence's Philadelphia Visit
Protesters will be dressed up as characters from the dystopian TV series "The Handmaids Tale" to protest Mike Pence's Philly visit Monday.

PHILADELPHIA – Vice President Mike Pence is speaking in Philadelphia Monday, and some are planning to use a popular TV show about subjugated women to protest his visit.
Pence is speaking at an event hosted by America First Policies at the Sheraton in Center City Philadelphia Monday and then will be at a fundraiser for Republican U.S. Senate candidate Lou Barletta at the Union League.
But opponents of Pence and President Donald Trump are not letting the events go un contested.

The groups Refuse Fascism Philly, Philly Up, NOW Philly Chapter, and DelCo NOW are planning to protest Pence's visit by have 100 women dressed as subjugated women from the dystopian TV series "The Handmaids Tale."
The group calls Pence "anti-women, anti-science, and anti-LGBT," as well as "a key figure in ushering in a theocratic society right out of the Handmaids Tale."

Protesters will gather at 5 p.m. at Broad and Sansom streets, organizers said.
Pence himself penned a piece for the Philadelphia Inquirer in which he said the Trump Administration's tax policies are "working for Philadelphia."
"All told, the typical family of four in the Philadelphia area will save nearly $2,500 on their taxes every single year," he says in the piece. "This is a win for working families. It means a down payment on a car, a new refrigerator, or saving a little bit more for your kids’ education."
