Here are the top three stories today in Philadelphia:

  1. A new report states that homicides and shootings are down in Philadelphia after a record-setting 2021. During the city's biweekly gun violence briefing, homicides are down 12% and shootings are down 2% compared to where they were last year. Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw stated that even though numbers are down, there is still work to be done to prevent families from losing loved ones. (WHYY)
  2. Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts had surgery on Wednesday to fix an ankle injury. Hurts sustained the injury while playing against the New York Giants in week 12. While he returned to play, the injury reportedly affected his game for the rest of the season. (CBS Philly)
  3. Police are currently on the lookout for a suspect involved in the shooting of a Rite Aid security guard near the Temple University campus. The incident occurred early Wednesday morning when the security guard argued with the patron. The patron then shot the guard in the arm. The guard is expected to recover. (CBS Philly)
