Here are the top three stories today in Philadelphia:

  1. Since the 1930s, the Carlyle Hotel in North Philly has seen a lot of check-ins and check-outs of people looking for short-term housing. But on Wednesday, 75 firefighters battled a blaze at the rooming house that displaced the tenants and their pets. A firefighter was injured but luckily, no residents were hurt in escaping the fire. (Daily Voice)
  2. Former Philly mayor Michael Nutter endorsed Democratic candidate Rebecca Rhynhart in this year's primary election. Nutter, who served two terms and appointed her city treasurer and budget director said, "it's about time" to elect a woman for mayor of Philadelphia. Rhynhart is one of four female candidates. (WHYY)
  3. Talk about crazy odds. Two people hit the Cash 5 Lotto on Monday, March 13. According to PA Lotto officials, they both picked the same winning numbers and both bought their tickets in Northeast Philadelphia, a mere few miles from one another. The jackpot of $350,000 will be split 50/50 between the two players and the stores get a $500 bonus for selling the lucky tickets. (Bucks Daily Voice).

  • Remember the Bristol Stomp? Go ask your grandparents. And then ask them to show you the fancy footwork of the dance from one of Philly's northern neighbors just past the city's limits because you're gonna have to start stomping on those darn lantern flies. Yep, they're back with a vengeance and they Netflix'd and chilled and are ready to lay thousands and thousands of lantern fly eggs. Experts say you have to start stomping on them — please wear shoes. (NBC 10 Philadelphia)
  • She went to Penn! If you're a fan of Abbott Elementary on ABC, you're sure to know that main character Janine, "went to Penn." Well guess what? Quinta Brunson is now delivering the graduation speech! (Philadelphia, PA Patch)
