I-95 Lanes Closing Overnight For 2 Months In South Philly

The highway will have lane closures overnight between Broad Street and South Street starting next week, according to PennDOT.

PHILADELPHIA — Drivers on Interstate 95 will encounter a lane closure in both directions overnight for about two months starting next week in South Philadelphia.

PennDOT said lane closures will be in place from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning starting Monday, Aug. 29 and lasting through late October.

The affected stretch of highway is between Broad Street/Route 611 and South Street.

Crews will be doing bridge repair for a project to perform high-priority repairs on 13 structures on I-95, Interstate 295 and Interstate 476 in Philadelphia, Bucks and Delaware counties.

Repairs to the 13 structures include replacing rocker bearings, frozen sliding plate bearings and deck expansion joints; cleaning and painting steel beams; repairing substructure concrete; and reconstructing bearing pedestals.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur.

All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

In addition, the project includes the replacement of 24 high mast light poles along the I-95 corridor in Philadelphia and Delaware counties.
