I-95 Reopens After Successful Work On New Park

Demolition work paving the way for the future of the Delaware Riverfront was successful.

PHILADELPHIA, PA — I-95 has reopened hours early after a prolonged closure of its northbound lanes over the weekend for construction work.

Crews finished demolition of existing concrete covering over the interstate, near the Walnut and Chestnut streets sections, by 11 p.m. Sunday night. The closure had been set to go through Monday morning.

The larger $329 million project will bring a new park and trails to the Delaware River waterfront and Penn's Landing.

Ultimately, the project will include a new 11.5 acre park at Penn's landing and a new bridge at South Street, both of which will extend over Columbus Boulevard to connect cyclists and pedestrians to the new Delaware River Trail.
