I-95 To Shut Down For 36 Hours In Philadelphia

It's part of the larger $329 million project bringing a new park and trails to the Delaware River waterfront and Penn's Landing.

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Northbound I-95 will be shut down for 26 hours in Philadelphia this weekend as part of an ongoing $329 million project to renovate Penn's Landing.

The closure will be in place from 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3 to 6 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 5 between Columbus Boulevard and I-676, or exits 20 and 22.

Crews will begin a partial demolition of the concrete covering I-95, between Chestnut and Walnut streets.

The following northbound ramps will be closed:

  • Just north of Washington Avenue at Columbus Boulevard
  • Lombard Circle at Columbus Boulevard
  • Westbound I-76 from New Jersey/Walt Whitman Bridge
  • Front Street

Ultimately, the project will include a new 11.5 acre park at Penn's landing and a new bridge at South Street, both of which will extend over Columbus Boulevard to connect cyclists and pedestrians to the new Delaware River Trail.
