Inmate Fatally Assaulted In Philadelphia Prison

An inmate was assaulted by their cellmate and died early Thursday morning at the Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility​, officials said.

PHILADELPHIA — An inmate at a Philadelphia prison died after being attacked by another inmate, officials said.

The inmate, whose identity was not released, was pronounced dead at 4:35 a.m. Thursday at Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility.

Officials said staff "was present in the housing unit and responded to the cell and notified medical staff who administered CPR."

The victim was assaulted by their cellmate, according to officials.

"The Department of Prisons strives to provide a safe, lawful and secure correctional environment, and we are working with the Philadelphia Police Department to investigate this incident," Prisons Commissioner Blanche Carney.
