🌱 Jim Gardner Gets Schooled + Philly ACCT At Capacity + MANNA Feeds
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Philadelphia.

Did you have a Happy Thanksgiving? It's me, Patty-Pat Kozlowski, your host of the Daily. Go put on your stretchy sweat pants and eat the rest of that pie in the fridge. No judgement here. Here's what's going on:
- During his last 6ABC Thanksgiving Day Parade broadcast, Jim Gardner got a visitor.
- Philly ACCT needs adopters at max capacity shelter.
- MANNA continues to feed thousands of those in need at Thanksgiving.
But first, today's weather:
Breezy with showers around. High: 54 Low: 37.
Here are the top three stories today in Philadelphia:
- Quinta Brunson, the creator and star of ABC's "Abbott Elementary" surprised longtime Channel 6 news anchor Jim Gardner during the 6abc Dunkin' Thanksgiving Day Parade. Gardner is retiring after decades of being the most recognizable newscaster in the Delaware Valley and even had a cameo in "Abbott Elementary's" first season. 6abc Philadelphia
- Some tough decisions might have to be made. There is a desperate call for pet adoptions at Philly ACCT over this Thanksgiving weekend as the City's pet shelter is at full capacity. Generally speaking, adoptions have slowed since many homes are full from pandemic adopting and presumably because of inflation rates that raise concerns about the costs of keeping a pet. (wpst.com)
- MANNA volunteers put together and delivered about 900 bags containing all the elements of a Thanksgiving dinner to people throughout the Greater Philadelphia region Thursday who are living with serious or critical illnesses. MANNA was one of the few organizations that helped HIV-AIDS patients during the outbreak in the 1980s. Today, MANNA continues to serve people living with HIV/AIDS but also provides meals, nutrition education and counseling to people living with cancer, kidney disease, heart disease, diabetes and other medical conditions. - Arts Access TV - Office of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy (6:00 PM)
- Jewelry for Your Walls! (7:30 PM)
- Walnut Street Theatre's Cinderella - Walnut Street Theatre (8:00 PM)
From my notebook:
- Most cheesesteak joints are named after men. Pat's, Jim's, Gino's Angelo's and Steve's. That doesn't mean women aren't involved with the business of creating Philly's best-known sandwich. In fact, many shops across the city depend on women to keep things running. They handle finances, they do PR, they manage staff — and even make the sandwiches. Billy Penn has a hot take on the queens of these cheesesteak kitchens. (billypenn.com)
- This bakery outwitted the pandemic. When the pandemic first hit in early 2020, The Frosted Fox Cake Shop followed the city's mandate and closed its doors – a circumstance that lasted for a few months. By June, however, it was back in business. Many food-related businesses closed their door and could not open after COVID restrictions were lifted. Check out this bakery, Chestnut Hill, that knew how to pivot the pandemic. ( The Chestnut Hill Local)
- Go out to a bar for a drink tonight, you might just find the lid to your pot. Check out this matchmaking story that happened at one of Philly's oldest bars-Reconnected after 20 years, a couple that met at McGillins Olde Ale House prepares to tie the knot. After meeting as kitchen workers at the Center City pub known for its matchmaking prowess, Joseph Scott proposed to Ivy Jackson while she was decorating for the holidays. (PhillyVoice)
