Here are the top three stories today in Philadelphia:
- Public education, safety, transportation and economic growth have top billing in Mayor Jim Kenney's final budget address to the City of Philadelphia. Highlights were an additional 950 free pre-K seats, $130 million for neighborhood parks, libraries and public spaces and $116 million in scholarships to the Community College of Philadelphia."With this budget we will build on our success and finish with energy, momentum, and a strong foundation for our city's next chapter," Mayor Kenney said. - A Philadelphia police cruiser was hit with bullets last night in West Philadelphia near 54th and Summer streets. One suspect is in custody while police search for the other shooter. Police helicopters hovered over the area during the man hunt and are still investigating on who and why they opened fire at the police officers in their vehicle. (6abc Philadelphia)
- QVC, the company that is synonymous with shopping from home on your television, is cutting 400 jobs. Citing a sluggish economy and its revenue numbers in decline, the company is one of the largest employers just outside Philadelphia. Dan Hughes and Carolyn Gracie, two longtime on-air hosts have already issued farewells to their fans via social media. ( 6abc Philadelphia).

From my notebook:
- Philly boxers talk "Rocky." Love it or hate it, the movie Rocky will forever be a Philadelphia classic. We even have a statue of a movie character that millions visit every year. Here's a cool write up of local boxers talking about who their favorite Rocky opponents are. ( PhillyVoice).
- Saturday, LOVE PARK is heading to the Poconos! So grab your E-Z Pass and hit the PA Turnpike just past the Lehigh Tunnel. From Wooder Ice:"Philly's iconic Love Park which was once a hotbed for the local skateboard culture, is being replicated by using snow at Bear Creek Mountain Resort in Macungie, PA (Lehigh Valley), for JahRailZ!" Saturday March 4 from 12 noon will be loads of snowboarding tricks and stunts off snow-built steps, rails and ramps. (Wooder Ice)
- Philadelphia Magazine asks, Does the world really need Peeps Pepsi? No, no it does not. We didn't need Pepsi Clear or "New" Coke or the McDLT and they all failed. Peeps belong in the Easter basket, not over ice with your slice of pizza. (phillymag.com)
