Pilot In Southwest Emergency Landing, 'Someone Went Out:' Listen

"There's a hole and someone went out," the pilot said to air traffic controllers when radioing in about the emergency landing at PHL.

PHILADELPHIA – The pilot of Southwest Airlines flight #1380 can be heard on audio recordings of radio communications with air traffic control at Philadelphia International airport telling controllers someone "went out" of the jet and that part of the aircraft was missing.

A SoundCloud user uploaded the audio online and we've got it featured below.

The flight from New York City to Dallas was forced to conduct an emergency landing at the airport after experiencing what the National Transportation Safety Board believes was engine failure at about 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 17.

NTSB Chairman Robert Sumwalt said one person died in the incident during a press conference Tuesday afternoon.

In the audio, the pilot can be heard saying "we have part of the aircraft missing," and that "there is a hole and someone went out." The pilot also requested medical personnel respond to the airport due to injured passengers.

A woman is reported to have been nearly sucked out of the jet after a piece of engine shrapnel broke a window. However, other passengers reportedly pulled the women to safety.

At this point, it's unclear if that person is the passenger who died.

A total of 12 passengers were evaluated for injuries and seven were treated, but not hospitalized, the Philadelphia Fire Department said.
