Little Sisters of the Poor to Honor Three Champions of Their Mission at Annual St. Jeanne Jugan Gala

In a milestone year, the Little Sisters of the Poor will honor three champions of their mission—Father Andrew C. Brownholtz, Chef Chris Scarduzio, and INTECH and Craig “Sab” Sabatino—at the annual Saint Jeanne Jugan Gala.

The 2025 Gala theme “Joy and Gratitude” celebrates the newly constructed, state-of-the-art Holy Family Home in Kingsessing– an achievement made possible through a multi-year $45 million capital campaign. The event will be emceed by Pat Ciarrocchi, Philadelphia Emmy Award-winning TV journalist, is former TV News anchor/reporter with CBS Philadelphia, and the first woman named to the Hall of Fame of the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters.

This year’s honorees exemplify extraordinary dedication to the Little Sisters’ mission:

• Father Andrew C. Brownholtz, Pastor of Saint Ignatius of Antioch (Yardley), in appreciation of his priesthood and continuous efforts promoting awareness and support for Holy Family Home.
• Chef Chris Scarduzio, owner of Teca Newtown Square Restaurant, in honor of the sincere dedication and love of the Scarduzio Family for the Little Sisters of the Poor and Residents expressed through their continuous support of Holy Family Home.
• INTECH and its Co-Founder and Chairman Emeritus Craig “Sab” Sabatino, in gratitude for the dynamism, craftsmanship, and sincere efforts to construct the ‘new’ Holy Family Home, enhancing the lives of many elderly.INTECH Construction, LLC is a general contracting and construction management firm.

Contextual Background

The Little Sisters of the Poor have served in Philadelphia since 1869 and have operated Holy Family Home since 1973. Continuing the mission of their Foundress, Saint Jeanne Jugan, the Little Sisters of the Poor welcome the neediest elderly of every race and religion, offering them a home where they will be welcomed as Christ, cared for as family, and accompanied with dignity until God calls them to Himself.

The Little Sisters partnered with The Catholic Foundation of Greater Philadelphia to raise the $45 million needed to rebuild Holy Family Home. To date, more than $42 million has been secured.

The Little Sisters broke ground on the new Home in 2022, and the completed Home was built by INTECH Construction, LLC. The 112,000 square foot space includes a Healthcare Household offering 18 private rooms with en-suite bathrooms; 20 studio and 17-one bedroom Independent-Living apartments; and a modest 15-bedroom convent that enables the Little Sisters to share their daily lives with Residents. A chapel adjacent to the main entrance hosts daily Mass and prayer, while generous communal areas—living and dining rooms, activity and physical-therapy spaces, landscaped courtyards, and library promote fellowship and well-being.

The newly constructed Holy Family Home has enabled the Little Sisters to introduce a new model of care to help Residents “age in place” in apartments for as long as possible before transferring to a care unit if a higher level of care is needed. This approach responds to the desire of seniors to remain as independent and active as possible as they age, and to the conviction of the Little Sisters that old age is a meaningful stage of life, not an illness.
