Man Shot After Stabbing 3 At SEPTA Station Monday: Authorities

SEPTA Police shot a man who stabbed three people at the Walnut-Locust station on the Broad Street Line Monday, according to authorities.

PHILADELPHIA — A man who stabbed three people at a SEPTA Broad Street Line subway station was shot by a SEPTA officer Monday night, according to the authority.

Just after 8 p.m. Monday, a man came into the Walnut-Locust Station with two knives and started slashing and stabbing at three people he passed on the platform, SEPTA said. One of those victims was a security guard for the Extrity firm, which was contracted by SEPTA.

Police were called to the area and found the suspect, a 48-year-old man, on the street near City Hall.

SEPTA said the man was still wielding two knives as police approached him.

Officers tried to subdue him with a taser, but that proved ineffective when led one officer to fire his weapon three times, striking the man with each round. SEPTA said the man is in critical condition.

All three stabbing victims suffered non-life threatening injuries, SEPTA said.

SEPTA Transit Police are investigating the incident.
