Here's what we know about the 36-year-old man accused of shooting six police officers last night in Philadelphia:

PHILADELPHIA — The man accused of shooting at law enforcement for hours in Philadelphia Wednesday night into Thursday morning has an extensive criminal background, according to police.

The alleged gunman behind the more than seven-hour shootout and standoff in the city's Nicetown section has been identified as Maurice Hill, 36.

  • Hill is accused of shooting at Philadelphia police officers as they served a narcotics warrant at a North 15th Street residence. Six were injured; all have been released from the hospital, a police spokesman confirmed. See full coverage of the seven-hour standoff.
  • District Attorney Larry Krasner said multiple charges, including attempted murder and aggravated assault, will likely be filed against Hill.
  • According to court records, Hill has been arrested numerous times on drug, gun, assault, and more charges.
  • He was charged federally in 2007 for being a convicted felon who had a handgun.
  • Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross said that he personally spoke to the gunman during the situation.
  • Ross said the alleged gunman told him over the phone Wednesday that he had an extensive criminal background.
  • Ross said the alleged gunman made unreasonable demands as negotiations were held and that those demands were not able to be met.
  • When speaking with Ross, the alleged gunman told him he did not want to go back to prison.
  • Hill's lawyer, Shaka Johnson, told CBS Philly that Hill was not injured in the shootout.
  • Ross and Krasner said Hill called Johnson “in a panic” around 8:30 p.m., and he tried to convince him to surrender. At one point, all four were on the phone at the same time.
  • At one point, he was on a video call with his girlfriend during the situation, Ross said.
  • Fox29 reported Hill live streamed the incident online before Facebook took it down.
  • CBS Philly reports Hill has a newborn child.
  • President Donald Trump issued a statement on the shooting, saying the alleged gunman should never have been on the streets in a call for a crackdown on street crime. Krasner also said Hill should not have been on the streets.
