Mayor Jim Kenney Quarantining After Coronavirus Exposure

The mayor's coronavirus test came back negative, but he's still staying in quarantine at his home to follow recommended guidelines.

PHILADELPHIA — While the daily coronavirus numbers in Philadelphia are still going down, Mayor Jim Kenney is quarantining at home after coming into contact with a person who tested positive for the virus.

During the city's news conference Tuesday on the response to the coronavirus, Kenney said he came into contact with a person sometime last week.

He got tested for the virus on Monday and his results were negative.

Even with the negative test result, Kenney is staying in quarantine at his home, avoiding City Hall this week, for the time being.

He said he will get tested again next week.

Health Commissioner Dr. Thomas Farley reported 76 new cases of the virus Tuesday.

The total number of cases identified in the city since March 10 is 35,901.

Two additional deaths were reported Tuesday, bringing the total number of residents who have succumbed to the virus in Philadelphia to 1,787.

Of the 1,787 total deaths, 883 — or 49 percent — were long-term care facility residents.
