Michelle Obama To Speak In Philadelphia This Fall

"We are proud to welcome one of the most inspirational women of our time," said an organizer for the Pennsylvania Conference for Women.

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Former First Lady Michelle Obama will speak in Philadelphia in October at a women's conference, marking her first visit to the area since a series of campaign stops and speeches made on behalf of Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Obama will speak at the 14th annual Pennsylvania Conference for Women on Oct. 3 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, according to an announcement from the organization.

More than 10,000 attendees are expected at the event.

“We are honored and thrilled to have Michelle Obama, one of the most respected women in the world, join us at this year’s conference,” said Leslie Stiles, Board President of the Pennsylvania Conference for Women. “With her career-long devotion to improving the lives of
children, increasing nutrition awareness, and advocating for equal access to education, Michelle Obama's impact clearly extends beyond her White House years.”

The Pennsylvania Conference for Women describes itself as a nonprofit - and nonpartisan - organization aimed at providing professional development personal growth opportunities for women in a wide variety of fields. Experts in business, philanthropy, finance, media, and leadership will lead classes and sessions during the conference.

In choosing the former first lady, the organization touted four of her key initiatives from her time in the White House: Let's Move, aimed at childhood obesity, Joining Forces, to support veterans, Reach Higher, to improve access to higher education for young people, and Let Girls Learn, to empower adolescent girls around the world to become educated.
