Murder Charge Filed After Man Shoots Car Thief In Philly: Police

PHILADELPHIA — A man who fatally shot a reported car thief in Philadelphia has been charged with murder, according to authorities.

The shooting occurred at about 3:08 p.m. Friday at Frankford Avenue and Pratt Street.

A man, later identified as Sherwayne Garrison, left his vehicle running while he used an ATM, Action News reports.

Garrison, 39, saw a man in his 40s get into his vehicle and start to drive off, prompting Garrison to shoot at the man through the vehicle window, striking the man in the head, Fox 29 reports.

Philadelphia and SEPTA police officers found the victim, Moneer Farhat, with a gunshot to his head inside a crashed vehicle.

Farhat was taken to Temple University Hospital in critical condition, but later died at 6:12 p.m.

Garrison told authorities he was the shooter in the incident.

Following an investigation, Garrison, of the 1500 block of Dyre Street, was charged with murder, possession of an instrument of crime, and reckless endangering another person, court records show.

He is being held without bail and is scheduled for a Dec. 9 preliminary hearing, according to court documents.
