Here are the top stories in Philadelphia today:
- The Schuylkill River Tank Farm sits across the river from the former PES refinery, which shut down after a massive fire and explosion in 2019. On Thursday, seven activists were arrested by Philadelphia Police for staging a "sit-in decommission "citing concerns about the health of nearby residents and the role fossil fuels play in driving climate change. - Samir Ahmad, 29, a four-year veteran of the Philadelphia Sheriff's Department, was arrested at work last week as part of an FBI gun-trafficking investigation. Two of the guns used in the shooting outside Roxborough High School last month, which left a 14-year-old dead and four teens injured, later ended up in the hands of a Philadelphia sheriff's deputy who then illegally resold the weapons to a federal informant, according to a court filing unsealed Thursday. - I know when you think World Series, the last thing you think of is poundcake. But you can nab yourself thee best poundcake in the world from Stock's Bakery on Lehigh Avenue and they'll decorate it with Phillies flair. Really, this poundcake is the thing that makes people go to the funeral luncheon, just ask your grandma. Cash only. Tell them Patty-Pat sent you and they might give you a delicious cheese Danish. It's his love letter to the City from his stomach. Nextdoor Neighbor, Chestnut Hill-East: "Netfix: Somebody feed phil. - Third session first episode is all about Philly food. Great to see us on a national stage. As a lover of food please watch, if into it." (Nextdoor)
