North 2nd Street In Philly Closing For Outdoor Dining Saturday

UPDATE: "Easy StrEats" On North 2nd Street In Philadelphia Has Been Postponed

PHILADELPHIA — A half mile of North 2nd Street in Philadelphia's Northern Liberties section will close for outdoor dining in the street.

The Northern Liberties Business Improvement District said "Easy StrEats" will launch on Saturday.

Between noon and 8 p.m., North Second Street will be closed to vehicular traffic between Germantown to Spring Garden.

Easy StrEats is modeled after the Philadelphia's Free Streets program, but is not a street festival.

Instead, Easy StrEats is a chance for people to spread out and explore the neighborhood's restaurants while safely distancing.

For restaurants, this is an important day when they can expand their seating capacity and aid in recovery efforts from shut-downs earlier this year.

Tables for al fresco dining will be set up outside of restaurants in the street itself.

For this pilot and debut of Easy StrEats, dining reservations will be required, and patrons can make their reservations by contacting participating restaurants. By making reservations, restaurants will be able to better socially distance, set up tables, and let restaurants plan.

Additionally, reservations will ensure guests do not congregate to wait for a table and group together.

Those visiting East StrEats must follow all city and state safety protocols, including wearing of masks to and from their table, use of hand sanitizer and good hygiene, the making of advance reservations, social distancing from other guests, and opting to stay home if you are not feeling well or have been exposed to someone with a positive case of coronavirus.

All participating restaurants will serve in expanding seating areas, in adjacent parklets and/or with outdoor café seating outside their businesses.
