Patient Attacks Nurse With Needle At Eastern PA Hospital: Police

Police said the man stabbed a nurse and a security guard with a hypodermic needle, and also assaulted another nurse and guard there.

PHILADELPHIA — Several people were attacked by a patient at a Philadelphia hospital Wednesday, according to police.

The incident began at about 4:30 p.m. at Temple University Hospital-Episcopal Campus Emergency Room. According to police, a 39-year-old man being treated for an overdose stabbed and assaulted several staff members.

Police said a nurse and a security guard were stabbed by the man with a hypodermic needle.

While others tried to subdue the man, he struck another nurse in the face with his elbow, knocking her unconscious, police said. That nurse regained consciousness.

Police said the man then assaulted another security guard who was trying to subdue him. According to police, the man was taken into police custody and will be charged with at least four counts of assault, reckless endangerment, and other crimes.
