(Patch Media)

Hey, Philadelphia! I'm back in your inbox this morning with your new edition of the Philadelphia Daily. Let's get this Friday started off right with a quick review of the most important things happening these days in town, including updates on...

  • A police pursuit started in Kensington and ended near Route 73 in Evesham, NJ.
  • Hurricane Nicole brings high winds, torrential rains and some flooding today in Phila.
  • A City Council committee gave a green light for a three-bill package that is designed to defend abortion rights and protect patients who seek reproductive health treatment in Philadelphia.

But first, today's weather:

Tropical rainstorm. High: 69 Low: 64.

Here are the top three stories in Philadelphia today:

  1. Do you think he used his EZ-PASS? Philadelphia Highway patrol officers spotted a vehicle around Frankford and Allegheny Avenues on Wednesday evening that fit the description of a Honda used in two recent shootings, including one last Saturday night where nine people were shot outside a Kensington bar. A police helicopter immediately went airborne following the vehicle and a high speed police chase from Kensington, over the Tacony Palmyra Bridge and into New Jersey ensued. (6abc Philadelphia)
  2. Call her fashionably late, but Hurricane Nicole, churning off the coast of Florida is bringing us a Friday of bad weather. Many thought hurricane season was done in late September, but coming up the coast is a concern. Look for today 10 a.m. through 6 p.m., the region will likely see scattered downpours, gusty winds and localized floods with a possible tornado watch.(fox29.com)
  3. The right to a safe, legal abortion in Philadelphia was the topic of a meeting on a series of bills and a resolution in City Council. Councilmember Helen Gym said the goal is to make sure politicians don't try to interrupt Philadelphian's right to choose. The bills will now go to the full council for approval. (WHYY)
