PHILADELPHIA, PA —A Philadelphia teacher is under investigation after she asked for gift cards to places like Starbucks, Target and Dunkin' in exchange for raising student grades, according to a Philadelphia Inquirer report.

Samira Mack, a 25-year-old teacher at Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts, is accused of accepting gift cards from several teens after a student and her mother alerted school officials about the scheme, the Inquirer reported.

The student told the Inquirer that Mack told her "every $10 gift card would get her grade raised 5 points."

The student and her mother also filed a complaint with the Pennsylvania Department of Education, the Inquirer reported. As of Thursday, a substitute teacher had been placed in Mack's classroom.
