The six-time Pro Bowler, a cornerstone of the 2018 and 2025 Super Bowl teams, praised Jeffrey Lurie and the city, recalling championship parades up Broad Street as unforgettable moments with Philadelphia.

2. Philadelphia Couple Claimed 4-Year-Old Boy Died In Car Crash; They Were Found Guilty Of Murder (patch.com) — Philadelphia residents are learning disturbing new details about the murder of 4-year-old Damari Carter, whose mother and her boyfriend falsely claimed he died in a car crash. After an investigation centered on their West Philadelphia apartment, a jury in the city found both guilty of murder and related charges, with sentencing set for December.

3. Yvonne Haskins, community activist, dies at 88 (chestnuthilllocal.com) — Longtime Mt. Airy and Germantown activist Yvonne Haskins, a former Philadelphia police officer and community leader, has died at 88. She helped shape Northwest Philadelphia through advocacy on redevelopment, green spaces, and civil rights, and Trolley Car Park on Germantown Avenue will be renamed in her honor, with a public memorial service planned at FUMCOG on Nov. 7.

4. Fund for School District provides $75K to help career education teachers get certified (audacy.com) — Philadelphia's Fund for the School District is putting up $75,000 so 20 career and technical education teachers can finish certification programs in fields like manufacturing, welding, and healthcare at no personal cost. The city's earlier $500,000 grant has run out, and Council leaders say they're pushing for recurring funding. Stronger CTE staffing could directly expand hands-on career pathways for local students.

5. Penn students, volunteers are excavating West Philadelphia's Black Bottom neighborhood (thedp.com) — West Philadelphia's former Black Bottom neighborhood is being excavated by Penn archaeology students and community volunteers just as City Council formally recognizes the area's history of displacement. The project uncovers artifacts and stories from a predominantly Black community cleared for University City, and organizers are planning exhibits and K-12 curriculum. A public celebration and renaming ceremony happens today at 36th and Market.
