Deadly Shooting At Pat's Steaks Ends With 2 Convictions

PHILADELPHIA — A man and woman involved in the shooting death of another man outside a popular cheesesteak spot in Philadelphia have been convicted of various crimes, including manslaughter and assault.

Paul Burkert, 37, of Reading, pleaded guilty in a Philadelphia court Monday to voluntary manslaughter and prohibited firearm possession in connection with the shooting death of David Padro, of Camden, New Jersey, on July 22, 2021.

Additionally, Jamie Frick, 38, of Newmanstown, pleaded guilty to simple assault and recklessly endangering another person in connection with the incident, court records show.

The shooting occurred at about 1 a.m. on July 22, 2021, outside Pat's Steaks.

Burkert and Padro are alleged to have gotten into an argument that turned physical.

At one point, Burkert got a firearm from a vehicle and fired at Padro, striking him and ultimately killing him.

After the shooting, Burkert and Frick drove off in a van and were taken into custody near the Liberty Bell.

The two are scheduled for sentencing in June.
