It has not yet been announced which city will host the finals.
Philadelphia's bid had long been seen as a strong one by analysts, with the country's birthplace holding other large celebrations for America's 250th birthday in 2026. Other major sporting events have also been awarded to Philadelphia in 2026, including the MLB All Star Game. The city is strongly lobbying to land the NBA and NHL All Star Games that year, too.
A large crowd greeted the announcement in Philadelphia's Love Park with cheers.
The United States has only hosted one prior men's World Cup: the 1994 tournament. Giants Stadium in New Jersey hosted seven games, including a semifinal.
