Philadelphia Police Officer Dies After Battle With Coronavirus

Captain Frank Milillo is the second member of the force to succumb to the coronavirus in less than two weeks' time.

PHILADELPHIA — Another member of the Philadelphia Police Department has died after contracting the coronavirus.

Philadelphia Police said Captain Frank Milillo died on Thursday.

Police Inspector Verdell Johnson announced Milillo's death, saying he died after battling an illness. Action News reports Milillo had the coronavirus.

Milillo was 53 years old and a 31-year veteran of the force who commanded the Southwest Detective Division.

"Prayers are solicited for his family as this terrible year takes another active officer," Johnson said on Twitter.

Milillo's death is the second coronavirus-related death in the department in less than two weeks.

Officer Tab Ali, a 25-year veteran of the 5th District, died on Monday, Nov. 23 after contracting the coronavirus. He was 60.

Lt. James Walker was the first member of the department to die from the coronavirus, succumbing to the illness in April. He was 59 years old and had been on the force for 33 years.
