Philly-Based Gopuff, A Delivery Startup, Is Laying Off 1,500 Employees: Report
The company celebrated a "year of hypergrowth" in 2021 but is now closing warehouses and cutting 10 percent of its workforce, reports say.

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Philadelphia-based delivery startup Gopuff is closing 76 warehouses and laying off about 1,500 people, according to a report.
The layoffs represent 10 percent of the company's global workforce, according to Bloomberg. The company indicated they are focusing on high-performing areas rather than continue rapid expansion, the report said.
It was not immediately clear which sites the layoffs will affect.

Gopuff also cut about 3 percent of jobs in March, as Bloomberg reported.
The company celebrated a "year of hypergrowth" in 2021, and has expanded to serve more than 1,000 cities. Last year, Gopuff launched new sites in New York City and the United Kingdom.

Gopuff's app and website have a selection of snacks, sodas, alcohol, frozen food, household goods, and more available for delivery. "Order in seconds, delivered in minutes" is one of their taglines.
Co-founders Rafael Ilishayev and Yakir Gola came up with the idea while sophomores at Drexel University, according to the company website.
