Madness Sweeps The Streets Of Philly After Eagles Super Bowl Win

Super Bowl fever swept the streets of Philadelphia as the city celebrated the Eagles' first ever championship.

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Cigars were passed to strangers. Fireworks shot off of porches. Thousands flooded from sidestreets and corner bars and hastily parked cars to rush toward the oblivion of Broad Street. All in celebration of the first Eagles Super Bowl victory in franchise history and the first Philadelphia championship since the Phillies won in 2008.

Near Broad and Oregon, just blocks from the stadiums, chants ranged from the Eagles fight song to expletive-ridden Tom Brady songs. Others praised "Saint Nick" Foles. Someone found a Patriots hat and threw it down in the middle of the crowd; dozens jumped up and down on it and danced around it joyously. Fans sprinted shirtless back and forth on the sidewalks whipping Eagles jerseys in the air. "Who knew God was green?" was shouted from somewhere in the crowd.

From block to block, neighborhood to neighborhood, the scene varied, and perhaps unsurprisingly, celebrations did not remain under control. There were reports of fires immediately after the game in multiple parts of the city, including south Philadelphia and Temple University.

At City Hall, celebrations reached a fever pitch as revelers attempted to climb over the wrought-iron gates, standing above thousands of cheering onlookers bathed in the green lights off of center city's skyscrapers. As a police cruiser and van made their way through the madness, fans climbed up on top of the van and led the crowd in chants.

Fans also climbed atop the canopy over the sidewalk in front of the Ritz Hotel. So many fans climbed on top of it, in fact, that it collapsed under their weight, sending them crashing to the ground.
