Philly Issuing Stay At Home Order, 11 New Coronavirus Cases

Starting at 8 a.m. Monday, at stay-at-home order will go into effect in the City of Philadelphia. See what that means for you here.

PHILADELPHIA — Officials Sunday said there are now 96 cases of the new coronavirus in the City of Philadelphia and that a stay-at-home order will go into effect Monday morning.

Health Commissioner Dr. Thomas Farley said 11 new cases were found Sunday.

The 11 new cases bring the total to 96 in the city. Saturday, officials reported 85 cases.

He said there were 23 new cases reported Saturday and that the lower number given Sunday does not indicate an overall decline in the virus's presence in the city.

Below are age breakdowns of the cases:

  • six are under 20;
  • 49 are 20-39;
  • 21 are 40-59;
  • and 20 are 60 and up.

Of the 96, 12 are known to have been hospitalized.

Of those 12:

  • two are 20-29;
  • two are 40-49;
  • four are 50-59;
  • and four are 60 and up.

Sixteen of the 96 are healthcare workers, Farley said.

Managing Director Brian Abernathy Sunday also said a stay-at-home order will go into effect at 8 a.m. Monday.

The order requires all residents to stay home unless they are engaged in essential activities, such as shopping for groceries and seeking medical attention. Other aspects permitted include caring for family members, friends, or pets; delivering goods; getting emergency services; and reporting to jobs that are deemed essential.

Outdoor activities such as walking, running, cycling, and using a wheel chair are permitted, however.

All private and public gatherings of any number of people outside a household or living unit are prohibited, Abernathy said.

Mayor Jim Kenney said Sunday that the order came after officials saw large groups of people out in parks, playgrounds, and more in recent days.

Additionally, Abernathy said walk-in takeout orders at all restaurants and bars are prohibited. Food and ice cream trucks are not permitted to operate, as well.

Residents can only order items for takeout or delivery online or by phone.
