Philly Is Nation's 5th Best City For Basketball Fans: WalletHub

Despite the Sixers falling the Miami Heat, WalletHub released new findings about Philly and basketball fans.

PHILADELPHIA — Even though the Philadelphia 76ers were knocked out of the playoffs Thursday, Philly is a top 10 city for basketball fans, according to WalletHub.

WalletHub released new findings that show Philadelphia is the fifth best city for basketball fans in the nation.

  • 4th – Performance Level of NBA Teams
  • 16th – Average Ticket Price for NBA Game
  • 21st – NBA Stadium Capacity
  • 6th – Number of NBA Championship Wins
  • 6th – Number of NCAA Div. 1 Basketball Championship Wins
  • 7th – NBA Attendance
  • 25th – NBA Fan Engagement
  • 143rd – College Basketball Fan Engagement

To determine the ranks, WalletHub compared 293 of the most populated cities across two divisional categories, "NBA" and "NCAA."

WalletHub's experts then evaluated those categories using 21 relevant metrics, which are listed below with their corresponding weights.

Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale, with a score of 100 representing the most favorable conditions for basketball fandom.

Lastly, WalletHub determined each city’s weighted average across all metrics to calculate its overall score and used the resulting scores to rank-order our sample.
