🌱 Philly Police Audit + Free Avocados+ Krasner Wants Public Hearing

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Philadelphia.

(Patch Media)

Good morning, Philadelphia! It's me, Patty-Pat Kozlowski, and I'm just letting you know I am skipping this month's mortgage payment because I scored tickets to Game 5 on Sunday, hoping the Phils beat the Padres that day and head to the World Series! Here's what going on in Philly today:

  • Since 2017, Philly has paid $205 million to injured officers per Controller audit.
  • Head to FDR Park and get your avocado on.
  • D.A. Larry Krasner wants to testify in public for his impeachment hearings but the PA House wants a closed-door meeting.

But first, today's weather:

Breezy with clouds and sun. High: 54 Low: 39. Yes, your Halloween mums died last night because you did not bring them in.

Here are the top three stories today in Philadelphia:

  1. Philadelphia City Controller Rebecca Rynhart released her much-anticipated audit of the Philadelphia Police Department. Her report outlines failures in the 911 system, and police operations and she targets the generous disability benefits for officers injured while on duty. She says it's ripe for abuse and fraud since there is little or no oversight. (inquirer.com)
  2. Avocado toast anyone? How much guacamole is too much? How about 25 semi-tractor trailer loads? From today until Friday from 12 pm to 6 pm, anybody can head down to FDR Park in South Philly and get a free bag of avocados due to a massive surplus of the green super food. (Wooder Ice)
  3. The Pennsylvania House of Representatives is moving forward with its investigation to impeach Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner amid Philadelphia's rise in violent crime. In a tension-filled tennis match of statements, Krasner accepted the invitation to testify but wants it to be transparent and open to the public. The House Select Committee wants him to address their membership in private. (inquirer.com)

Today in Philadelphia:

  • The Big Fake Wedding (Wedding Expo Alternative) (6:30 PM)
  • PFS & PASA - Digital Open Mic Night - Philadelphia Folksong Society (7:00 PM)
  • Drama Queens Live On Tour - Theatre of the Living Arts (9:30 PM)

From my notebook:

  • While my top pick is either Byrne's Tavern, Mick's Inn or Cheers Cafe in Port Richmond and The Polonia Club or Krick Wuder in Bridesburg, Visit Philadelphia compiled a list of watering holes in the City to watch the Phils vs Padres series if you didn't score Standing Room Only tickets that are priced as high as a car payment. (Visit Philadelphia)
  • Somebody Feed Phil-adelphia! The Netflix hit follows TV writer and producer Phil Rosenthal (Everybody Loves Raymond) all around the world as he shows us how to make the best faces when you eat something so good. Season 6 premiered last night and Philly was the town he showcased. He visits the Reading Terminal Market, sits down with chef Michael Solomonov and learns that yes, you need two hands to eat a hoagie! (forbes.com)
  • Get Your Ichabod Crane on in Coatesville, PA as the Stargazer Vineyard (the best kept secret in Chester County) throws the Legend of Sleepy Hallow Barn Dance on Friday, October 28. Word on the covered bridge lane says that the Headless Horse-woman will gallop up to the winery searching for a new head, or at least a goblet of warm mead and pumpkin squash soup! Oh, and wear your best colonial garb! ( Eventbrite)
