Philly Schools Going Virtual Friday Due To Ida Flooding

PHILADELPHIA — All School District of Philadelphia School buildings will be closed and students will learn virtually Friday, the district said Thursday.

According to the district, students will have fully virtual instruction Friday.

The decision comes as city officials said road conditions and other impacts from the storm are not expected to improve by tomorrow.

Schools are dismissing normally Thursday, but all after school activities — including practice, games, extracurricular activities, and after-school care — have been canceled.

School staff will remain in schools until all students have been safely picked up or dismissed.

Families should anticipate SEPTA and yellow bus delays throughout the remainder of the day. SEPTA will continue to provide transportation support across all areas of the city, excluding the flood-prone Manayunk and Roxborough areas.

School staff will be communicating directly with families about dismissal for the following schools in flood-prone areas:

• Shawmont Elementary School
• Cook-Wissahickon School
• AMY Northwest
• Thomas Mifflin School
• Academies at Roxborough
• Walter B. Saul High School

The School District of Philadelphia will be closed Monday for Labor Day and Tuesday for Rosh Hashanah. Schools and district buildings will reopen on Wednesday next week.
