🌱 PMA Back at Work + ATVs Rodeos in Old City + AIDS Walk Turns 36

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Philadelphia.

(Patch Media)

Good morning, neighbors. Yes, it did get cold overnight. Might have to turn the heat on! Grab a jacket and keep reading to find out everything you need to know about what's going on locally, including updates on...

  • After 19 days of striking, the Philadelphia Museum of Art is back at work.
  • Over 400 ATVs used Old City streets as a drag race and police impounded vehicles.
  • The Philadelphia Aids Walk kicked off its 36th year.

But first, today's weather:

Partly sunny and cooler. High: 56 Low: 39.

📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Philadelphia who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.

I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Philadelphia Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.

Here are the top three stories today in Philadelphia:

  1. Just in time for the scheduled opening of a major exhibit of Henri Matisse's artwork, unionized workers at the Philadelphia Museum of Art reached a contract settlement. For 19 days PMA workers were striking against low wages, parental leave, and health insurance costs. Thanks to the support from the public, elected officials and PMA members who did not want to cross the picket lines in solidarity, they won most of their negotiations. (inquirer.com)
  2. Hundreds of ATVs, dirtbikes and quads rodeoed at the Old City intersection of Delaware and Spring Garden to pop wheelies and show off their bikes. Problem is, these bikes are illegal to drive in the city. A police car was surrounded by the riders and they smashed the windshield as police officers impounded vehicles. (cbsnews.com)
  3. Over $300,000 was raised in the 36th Annual Philadelphia AIDS Walk this past weekend. More than 27,000 people in the Greater Philadelphia Area are living with HIV/AIDS and organizers have said that number is triple the national average. The funds raised are geared toward emergency assistance for HIV/AIDS patients. (Patch)

From my notebook:

  • Phillies Fans Get Shut Out of NLCS Tickets- and this Patch staff writer was one of them. Thousands of Phillies fans logged onto Phillies.com via MLB for their chance to score tickets to home games against the San Diego Padres this week. Legend says they are still trapped in a "virtual waiting room" hoping to buy tickets that no longer exist. (inquirer.com)
  • A restaurant revolving around bacon? Bake'N Bacon, the food truck started by Justin Coleman in 2019, will get its first brick-and-mortar restaurant on South 11th, occupying the old Devil's Den gastropub space. A secret family recipe for dense pound cake will be paired with a bacon-infused caramel sauce, and for those with more of a sweet tooth, chocolate-covered bacon will be on the menu. (PhillyVoice)
  • Philadelphia Parks & Recreation: The best kept secret in Philly is this bike and walking trail on the Delaware Riverfront. "There's a new trail in town! On Monday, PPR joined Riverfront North Partnership, elected officials, and community members to break ground on an extension of the K&T trail from Lardner's Point Park to the Tacony Boat Launch on Princeton St. Fu..."
