Police Locate Philadelphia Mom Who Left Baby At Hotel

​Police have located a Philadelphia woman who they say abandoned a baby, leaving her alone overnight at a suburban motel.

Police have located a Philadelphia woman who they say abandoned her 7-month-old baby, leaving it alone overnight at a Bucks County hotel room that had drugs and paraphernalia in plain view.

Erica Avila-Lopez, 34, of Philadelphia left the child alone in a room at Knights Inn Hotel in Bensalem at approximately 4 p.m. Saturday and never returned, police said.

Police were summoned to the Lincoln Highway motel after hotel cleaning staff found the baby lying on the floor Sunday morning around 11 a.m. There were narcotics and drug paraphernalia in plain view inside the room, police said.

The child was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital for evaluation but police said it does "not appear" the child was injured.

Bucks County Children & Youth social workers responded to St. Mary’s Hospital and the baby was turned over to the custody of Philadelphia DHS since the mother and child are Philadelphia residents.

Avila-Lopez has been charged with endangering the welfare of children, recklessly endangering another person and narcotics offenses.
