Ruth Bader Ginsburg To Get National Constitution Center Metal

The Liberty Medal honors men and women of courage and conviction who strive to secure the blessings of liberty to people around the globe.

PHILADELPHIA — The National Constitution Center in Philadelphia has chosen the recipient of this year's Liberty Metal, selecting Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg as this year's honoree.

The Liberty Medal was established in 1986 and honors men and women of courage and conviction who strive to secure the blessings of liberty to people around the globe.

Ginsburg will be honored via a video tribute in words and music broadcast live at 6:30 p.m. on Constitution Day, Thursday, Sept. 17.

The program, featuring performances by internationally renowned opera singers and tributes from special friends of Ginsburg, will debut online here.

The long-sitting judge was chosen for the 32nd Annual Liberty Metal.

She was nominated to the Supreme Court by President Bill Clinton and took her seat in 1993.

The 87-year-old Brooklyn, New York native is most known for her advocacy in equal rights law and was depicted in the 2018 film "On the Basis of Sex."
