See Philly Native David Corenswet In First 'Superman' Trailer
Philadelphia's David Corenswet is Clark Kent/Superman in James Gunn's upcoming film about the Man of Steel. It hits theaters July 11, 2025.

PHILADELPHIA — In June 2023, Philadelphia native David Corenswet was chosen to be the newest version of Superman.
Now, with "Superman" set for a July 2025 release, the former Shipley School and University of Pennsylvania student can be seen in action as the Man of Steel in the film's first trailer.

Directed by James Gunn, known for the "Guardians of the Galaxy" movies and "The Suicide Squad," the movie also stars Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Nathan Filion, Milly Alcock, Isabela Merced, Skylar Gisondo, and Frank Grillo.
The new movie, set to release July 11, 2025, will focus on Clark Kent/Superman's journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his adoptive human family in Smallville, Kansas.

In 2019, Corenswet told Entertainment Weekly that he "would love to see the next [Superman] be very bright and optimistic" after Henry Cavill portrayed a darker, grittier iteration of the beloved superhero.
Corenswet has appeared in shows such as "House of Cards," "The Politician," and "Hollywood."

His film career includes "Pearl," Look Both Ways," and "Affairs of State."
He has also starred in a number of Philadelphia-area stage productions.
