Shooting Suspect Shot At By Philly Cop Before Being Captured
Police said a 29-year-old man who shot another man, leaving him in critical condition, was taken into custody after an officer shot at him.
PHILADELPHIA — A shooting suspect is in custody after a Philadelphia Police officer opened fire on him and chased him down Monday night, authorities said.
The incident unfolded at about 8:30 p.m. Monday at a Sunoco gas station on the 4100 block of North Broad Street.
Police were called to the store for a report of a man with a gun, and there, an officer saw several men arguing. The group left the gas station and crossed the street toward the intersection of Broad and Jerome Streets, where the confrontation turned violent, police said.

During the fight, a 29-year-old man drew a firearm and shot another man, according to police.
The officer who saw the fight also saw the shooting, leading him to open fire on the 29-year-old man, according to police. The suspect was not struck, and the officer chased him down the 1300 block of West Jerome Street, where he was taken into custody without further incident, police said.

Investigators found a 9mm Smith & Wesson handgun, believed to belong to the suspect, underneath a parked vehicle on Jerome Street, according to authorities.
The shooting victim, an unidentified male, was taken to Temple University Hospital, where he is in critical condition with gunshot wounds to the right chest and left groin.
The suspect's identity has not yet been released, and charges are pending.
No officers were reported injured during the exchange.
Body cameras captured the incident, police said.
The officer who fired at the suspect is a 36-year-old, 9-year veteran of the Philadelphia Police Department who is assigned to the 39th Police District. He has been placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of concurrent investigations by the Internal Affairs Division, the Officer-Involved Shooting Investigations Unit, and the District Attorney's Office, per department protocol.
