Target Volunteers Join Community Partners to Support Walnut Hill Playground Improvements
Target team members joined University City District and Do Moore Good to help beautify the Walnut Hill Community Playground
Target team members volunteered Saturday at Walnut Hill Community Playground in West Philadelphia, joining University City District, Do Moore Good, Green City Works, the Walnut Hill Community Association, and other community partners to help beautify the playground and nearby Sansom Street Garden.
During the volunteer day, Target team members and community volunteers helped install new playground amenities, mulch and weed garden beds, and paint the Sansom Street Garden fence across from the playground. The effort brought together local organizations and volunteers to support a community space used by Walnut Hill families and residents.
“Target team members are proud to give back in the communities where we live and work, and we were grateful for the opportunity to spend the morning supporting Walnut Hill,” said Malcolm Odum, Target Store Director. “This playground and garden are important neighborhood spaces, and we’re glad our team could help with improvements that families and residents will be able to enjoy.”

“My great-grandmother, Alice Jones, helped establish this playground, and it's an honor to continue her legacy of community building by revitalizing this neighborhood landmark,” said Shuja Moore, President of Do Moore Good. “Thank you to Target for stepping up and supporting a place of peace in West Philly.”
“Target has been instrumental in the funding and volunteers needed for this project,” said Asia Whittenberger, Manager of Advancement at University City District. “We are excited to bring this deteriorating playground back to life for the community's children and families that use this space every day.”

The volunteer event included hands-on work at Walnut Hill Community Playground, located at 4700 Sansom Street, and at the Sansom Street Garden across the street. Volunteers worked throughout the morning on playground improvements, garden cleanup and fence painting.
The event is part of Target’s ongoing commitment to supporting the communities it serves through local volunteerism and partnerships.
