🌱 Teen Fatally Shot + Judge DeLeon Runs + We Love Sheryl Lee Ralph!

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Philadelphia.

(Patch Media)

Hello, friends. Patty-Pat Kozlowski here with your Wednesday edition of the Philadelphia Daily. Right about now, you should be brining your turkey! Nobody likes a dry bird!

  • A gunman kills a teenager, injures another outside a Chinese restaurant.
  • Here comes the judge — Judge James DeLeon wants to be mayor.
  • Hundreds gather to honor Emmy Award Winner Sheryl Lee Ralph of "Abbott Elementary."

But first, today's weather:

Plenty of sunshine. High: 56 Low: 30.

Here are the top three stories in Philadelphia today:

  1. A gunman opened fire on two teenagers hanging outside a Chinese food restaurant along the 1000 block of Chelten Avenue at 6:29 p.m. Tuesday. A 17-year-old boy was shot once in the left rib area and killed while the 16-year-old was shot once in the chin and once in the left arm. Both teens were taken to the hospital. Police recovered a weapon. No arrests have been made and police have not released a description of any suspects. (NBC 10 Philadelphia)
  2. Former judge James "Jimmy" DeLeon has entered the race for Philadelphia mayor, announcing Tuesday that he will run in the crowded Democratic primary. "I know that I can make a positive difference in our city and lead it to new heights," DeLeon said. "I believe that my experience, values, and vision would prove invaluable to the position of mayor."(Billy Penn)
  3. Hey, don't you wish Sheryl Lee Ralph would just run for Mayor of Philadelphia? Hundreds of guests filed into a ballroom at Live! Casino and Hotel in South Philadelphia to show her the well-earned, well-deserved brotherly love and sisterly affection to the actress who won an Emmy for her role in the Philly-centric TV show, "Abbott Elementary." • Arts Access TV - Office of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy (6:00 PM)
  • Walnut Street Theatre's Cinderella - Walnut Street Theatre (8:00 PM)

From my notebook:

  • The night before Thanksgiving is one of the busiest bar nights of the year. Everyone has off the next day, friends are home from college or visiting family and it's one big party with a cover band and drink specials. But this year, Philly's LGBT bars and clubs are on high alert due to the shootings in Colorado. (Philadelphia, PA Patch)
  • Hey! Instead of standing in line at Walmart at 3 a.m. on Black Friday, why not sleep in and then take the kids to the Philadelphia Zoo? We promise they will love this gift and won't play with the box instead. Philadelphia Zoo's dazzling winter light show experience is back! LumiNature returns for another season of breathtaking sights, sounds and surprises with more than a million twinkling lights across 14 one-of-a-kind artistically illuminated zones. (Wooder Ice)
  • Thank-you Ben Simmons for stinking at the free throw line and thank you Chik-fil-a for the nuggets. Philadelphia 76ers fans can say all they want about Brooklyn Nets star Ben Simmons, but they can't deny the fact that Simmons gave them free Chick-fil-A treats Tuesday night when he missed both free throws in the third quarter of this Sixers-Nets showdown.
