Teen SEPTA Shooting Victim Dies, 2 Charged: Philadelphia Police

PHILADELPHIA — Police in Philadelphia said a teenager who was shot on SEPTA's Market-Frankford line last week has died. Authorities also identified the victim and the two teens who are charged in the shooting.

Tyshaun Welles, 16, of Philadelphia, died after being shot at about 9:29 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11 on the westbound platform of the SEPTA station located at 1500 Market Street.

Welles was taken to Thomas Jefferson Hospital in critical condition but succumbed to his injuries Tuesday, police said.

Shortly after the shooting, SEPTA Police identified and apprehended two suspects in Welles’ shooting.

Charged are Quadir Humphrey, 18, and Zaire Wilson, 16.

The two are charged with aggravated assault, simple assault conspiracy, and related offenses. The charges are expected to be upgraded, police said.

The shooting is believed to have stemmed from a disturbance involving a large group of juveniles on the platform.

Witnesses said two people, later identified as Humphrey and Wilson, talking on the east end of the platform before one of them, believed to be Humphrey, pulled out a gun and fired into the crowd, striking Welles, police said.
