These Are Philly's Best Restaurants, New York Times Says In New List

The Philly food scene rivals those in cities such as New York and Los Angeles these days, and the Times says these are must-visit spots.

PHILADELPHIA — Unless you haven't been paying attention, Philadelphia's food scene has over the last decade become a spotlight in the United States and even internationally.

And the city's booming food scene has caught the attention of food writers at the New York Times.

The Times Monday published "The 25 Best Restaurants in Philadelphia Right Now."

"The dining scene here is having a moment, whether it’s outstanding pizza, fiery Ethiopian fried chicken or French inflected cuisine that feels like a cozy dinner party," the Times said.

Among the 25 featured restaurants are several James Beard Award-winning spots, including Kalaya, Zahav, and Friday Saturday Sunday.

The list isn't just the higher-end restaurants, either.

Angelo's Pizzeria, known for their cheesesteaks, and newcomer El Chingo, a casual BYOB spot offering Pueblan tortas called cemitas, were featured on the list.
