A True Celebration Of Life At Renaissance Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center

Minnie Reavis Turns 100 - Outlives President Kennedy and Ella Ftizgerald!

Renaissance Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, a distinguished provider of subacute services and long-term care in Philadelphia, is honored to be the site of a grand celebration: Minnie Dee Reavis, a cherished Resident at Renaissance, is marking her 100th birthday.

“The excitement at Renaissance is palpable,” says Carmella Kane, Administrator at Renaissance. “To celebrate this major milestone with her is truly significant because it is a reflection of our Core Values: to provide exceptional quality of care with devotion to each of our Residents.”

Indeed, great care comes from exceptional staff, and the caregivers at Renaissance infuse compassion into their every interaction with Residents and their family members.

“We know our Residents on a very personal level; providing care for them allows us to get to know their life stories, with their personal challenges and successes, in all their glory,” adds Kane.

Keeping in mind that Minnie was born the same year as John F. Kennedy and Ella Fitzgerald, and that growing up in Locust Hill, Virginia, she was a plucky athlete often chosen as the server in the volley ball games, gives the staff at Renaissance great insight about her personality. Knowing that she worked at the US Signal Corp as part of the war effort during the 1940’s, and enjoyed a marriage of 56 years to Stephen Reavis, are certainly meaningful facts that provide the staff at Renaissance important touchstones to relate to her on a personal level.

“Furthermore, knowing that today Minnie is a devoted great-grandmother, and is known to play a formidable hand of pinochle, allows us to provide care that comes from the deeper connection with her,” adds Kane.

Every time a Resident turns 100, there is a heartfelt celebration at Renaissance, and the staff is working closely with Minnie’s family members to make this a special birthday for her – creating long-lasting memories for her three children, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The celebrations for Minnie’s 100th birthday will include a special event on Friday, June 23, starring Jimmy Wells, and official citations honoring her from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and from Congressman Dwight Evans, Washington, DC.

Born at a time when the average life expectancy for women was 54 years, having outlived both President Kennedy and Ella Fitzgerald, and basking in the devoted attention of her family members and the staff at Renaissance, this promises to be a true celebration of life.
