Here are the top three stories today in Philadelphia:
- Who knew going out to eat would be so deadly in Philadelphia? According to police, at least 16 shots were fired shortly before 11:30 p.m. inside the Shangri-La Chinese Restaurant on the 5400 block of Chester Avenue. Johron Jones, 19, of the 5400 block of Chester Avenue, was shot multiple times in the head and torso and Kristie Manago, 43, of the 5200 block of Chester Avenue, was shot in the shoulder. Both victims were taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center where they were pronounced dead a short time later. (6abc Philadelphia)
- Flyers defenseman Ivan Provorov cited his Russian Orthodox religion as the reason he did not participate in pregame warmups when the team wore Pride-themed jerseys and used warmup sticks wrapped in rainbow Pride tape. The 26-year-old Provorov did not skate with his teammates before Tuesday night's game against Anaheim as the Flyers celebrated their annual Pride night in celebration and support of the LGBTQ+ community. He played nearly 23 minutes in Philadelphia's 5-2 victory. "I respect everybody's choices," Provorov said after the game. "My choice is to stay true to myself and my religion. That's all I'm going to say." (6abc Philadelphia).
- Philadelphia Democratic Party head Bob Brady has confirmed that former Lt. Governor Mike Stack made his intentions of joining the mayoral race known during a meeting of party leadership. Stack was in the PA Senate and was ward leader of the 58th Ward. At one point he actually tried his hand at standup comedy, and put an advertisement on backstage.com as "Michael J Stack aka Honorable Governor Stack aka Mikey Stacks."Brady also confirmed rumors that State Senator Vincent Hughes is taking a serious look at the packed field of candidates who will run for the city's top executive position.
