Two Philadelphia Hospitals Are Among The Best In US: Newsweek
Newsweek's best hospital rankings for 2021 include over 300 hospitals in the United States. Philadelphia has two hospitals in the top 200.
PHILADELPHIA — Two Philadelphia hospitals were ranked among the best in America by Newsweek.
The magazine's "World's Best Hospitals" list for 2021 ranked the top hospitals around the world, including in the United States. It's the third year Newsweek has published the list, for which it partnered with the data firm Statista.
Ten Virginia hospitals ranked among the top 200 in the U.S., while another five hospitals were included in the overall list but did not rank among the top 200.

Newsweek ranked Penn Presbyterian Hospital No. 16 nationally and Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals No. 72 nationally.
In its methodology, Newsweek explained that it looked at three data sources to compile the rankings: recommendations from medical experts, results from patient surveys and medical KPIs on hospitals.

These are the top 10 hospitals in the United States, according to Newsweek.
- Mayo Clinic - Rochester in Rochester, MN
- Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio
- Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston
- The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore
- Stanford Health Care - Stanford Hospital in Stanford, CA
- Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles
- The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, NY
- University of Michigan Hospitals - Michigan Medicine in Ann Arbor, MI
- Brigham And Women's Hospital in Boston
- New York-Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia and Cornell in New York, NY
Hospitals in the U.S. were also recognized for infection prevention if they performed above the national average based on data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
Both Penn Presbyterian Hospital and Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals were "above average" in infection prevention.

Methodology:
The World's Best Hospital ranking lists are based on three data sources: Recommendations from medical experts (doctors, hospitals managers, health care professionals); results from patient surveys; medical KPIs on hospitals.
U.S. hospitals were also awarded as best hospitals for infection prevention if they performed above the national average based on six different measures. This recognition is based on data from Jan. 1, 2019, to Dec. 31. 2019, published by CMS.
