Two Philly Breweries Earn Medals At Beer Competition​

Two breweries in Philadelphia earned silver and bronze medals from the Great American Beer Fest recently. Have you tried them?

PHILADELPHIA – Two breweries in Philadelphia walked away from the Great American Beer Festival's brewing competition with some hardware recently, and now we're itching to try these award-winning brews.

Dock Street Brewery came out with a bronze medal and Yards Brewing earned a silver medal at the festival which was recently held in Denver, Colorado.

According to the Great American Beer Festival, breweries enter their beers to be blindly judged by the festival’s Professional Judge Panel. Festival attendees can also sip the beer entered in the competition during the tasting sessions.

Dock Street's Man Full of Trouble earned bronze in the competition's "brown porter" category.

Yards' Extra Special Ale earned silver in the "extra special bitter" category.

Breweries in Media, Aston, Pottstown, Croydon, and Royersford also brought home medals. In total, PA breweries brought home 16 medals.

Below are the criteria for gold, silver, and bronze medals:

  • Gold - A world-class beer that accurately exemplifies the specified style, displaying the proper balance of taste, aroma and appearance.
  • Silver –An excellent beer that may vary slightly from style parameters while maintaining close adherence to the style and displaying excellent taste,aroma and appearance.
  • Bronze – A fine example of the style that may vary slightly from style parameters and/or have minor deviations in taste, aroma or appearance.
