UPenn Counseling Head Dies By Suicide: Reports

PHILADELPHIA — The head of University of Pennsylvania's counseling and psychological services died by suicide Monday, according to reports.

Gregory Eells, 52, died Monday by jumping from the 17th floor of a Center City building, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Philadelphia Department of Public Health officials ruled Eels' death a suicide, according to the Daily Pennsylvanian.

The Inquirer reports Eels did not leave a note.

He previously served as the director of Counseling and Psychological Services at Cornell University for 15 years.

  • Prepares for death by making out a will and final arrangements
  • Gives away prized possessions
  • Has attempted suicide before
  • Takes unnecessary risks
  • Has had recent severe losses
  • Is preoccupied with death and dying
  • Loses interest in their personal appearance
  • Increases their use of alcohol or drugs
