Wawa Or Sheetz? New Documentary Aims To Crown a Convenience King

Can a filmmaker from the Pittsburgh area objectively weigh in on the Keystone state's greatest debate in his upcoming film, Sheetz Vs. Wawa?

PHILADELPHIA – Wawa is the go-to convenience store in Southeastern Pennsylvania and even in some markets outside the Philadelphia area. But out west, the prime store is Sheetz. And the debate among Pennsylvanians as to which store is the king of convenience has raged for decades.

Now, one filmmaker aims to put an end to the debate with a new documentary called Sheetz Vs. Wawa.

Filmmaker Matthew Fridg, who grew up in Sheetz territory, will lay out the argument for the stores in the film, expected to release in 2019.

"Like two squirrels fighting for the last acorn before the winter snows, the friendly rivalry between Sheetz and Wawa lovers has seeped deep into the culture of the region," the film's website reads. "It’s the kind of thing you ask on the first date. Parents hope to pass their own affiliation down to their children. Team Sheetz or Team Wawa? But if you ask the people in the area, you can’t have it both ways."

Can a Pittsburgh-area native give an objective take on the topic? We hope so.

"I’ve been exposed to both and while the Sheetz love is homegrown," Fridge, 37, told Philly.com "I also like Wawa."

We would ask which store you think it better, but we're pretty sure we know the answer. A better question is: can this debate be settled finally?
